Flipped Teaching Video

Hello everyone! For this task, my friend Zelal and I prepared a flipped teaching video. I will explain what flipped teaching is shortly. The flipped classroom approach is a teaching model that reverses the traditional roles of in-class lectures and homework assignments. Instead, students learn new concepts at home through pre-recorded lectures or other instructional materials and apply their knowledge during class time through interactive activities, discussions, and collaboration with peers. The advantages of using this method in language classes include flexibility for students to learn at their own pace, active learning which involves more interaction and participation, collaboration which encourages teamwork and peer-to-peer learning, and personalization where teachers can tailor lesson plans to meet individual needs. However, some disadvantages may include technical issues such as access to technology and reliable internet, lack of motivation for some students, time constraints if too much time is devoted to pre-recorded lectures or homework assignments, and teacher training in creating effective instructional videos and designing engaging in-class activities.

We were to choose a group of words to teach from the MEB English coursebook for grade 5 students. We chose the unit about daily routine and prepared a flipped teaching video by including the target words of that unit. Then we started planning. Firstly, we prepared a draft and added visuals that were about the topic of daily routine. When the draft was finished, we wrote a text and aligned the timing of the sentences with the video. After the video was fully ready, we recorded our voices. I recorded the part that the routine was being told and Zelal recorded the quiz part. We used Canva while doing this task. We've never used Canva for preparing a video and it took so much time to figure out its system.

It was one of the most difficult tasks that I have ever prepared. But I am so happy that I learned how to prepare a video by using Canva. Here is our flipped teaching video.

  1. A well prepared video with good narration. Just before the quiz, a quick review of the daily routine task would also be good. Thank you.
