Flipped Teaching Video

Image
Hello everyone! We're back together with an entertaining and different task. We prepared a flipped teaching video. Let me explain what the flipped classroom approach is. In a flipped classroom, there is a strategic swap of lectures and homework. While traditional methods are based on lecturing in class time and giving homework to do at home, the flipped classroom approach does the opposite. In this approach, students watch the lessons at home Netflix-style, and practice in the classroom. To adapt to the changing world, educators find this method very useful and fun. Students are able to see whether or not they completely understand and are capable of putting theory into real life. If there is a question they need to ask their teacher, they can do it right away and this is a huge plus for this method. There are also some disadvantages such as access to technology. To be able to successfully apply this method, all students need to have access to technology outside the ...

Flipped Teaching Video

Image
Hello everyone! For this task, my friend Zelal and I prepared a flipped teaching video. I will explain what flipped teaching is shortly. The flipped classroom approach is a teaching model that reverses the traditional roles of in-class lectures and homework assignments. Instead, students learn new concepts at home through pre-recorded lectures or other instructional materials and apply their knowledge during class time through interactive activities, discussions, and collaboration with peers. The advantages of using this method in language classes include flexibility for students to learn at their own pace, active learning which involves more interaction and participation, collaboration which encourages teamwork and peer-to-peer learning, and personalization where teachers can tailor lesson plans to meet individual needs. However, some disadvantages may include technical issues such as access to technology and reliable internet, lack of motivation for some students, time con...

Corpus-based Material

Image
Hi, world! Our new task was to prepare a corpus-based material. We were supposed to choose a generally confused grammar or vocabulary item from the MEB English coursebook and prepare a worksheet by using corpus-based activities. I worked on the worksheet for hours... I used Canva again for this project. It was hard to choose a worksheet template suitable for the types of exercises I will be creating. Fortunately, I found one and started to prepare activities on the topic I chose from the book. The topic was "few" and "a few". For most of the students who are new to these quantifiers, it is confusing and almost meaningless. I tried to make them understand, practice and create on this topic. It was exhausting trying to find the right sentences while giving examples. I am satisfied with the outline of the worksheet and activities. This task contributed a great deal to my teaching skills. It provided me with the ability to see the activities from the eyes of the studen...

Creating a Timeline

Image
Hello there! I am here with a very different task this time. It is the first time I've ever created a timeline by myself ! The topic of the timeline that we were supposed to create is " the history of technology in language learning". We have been going over this topic for a couple of weeks. Though I heard so many things on this topic, it was hard to summarize them into a timeline. The hard part was not only summarizing, creating was also a confusing process. I tried out a few tools that our teacher suggested. Finally, I could understand one of them enough to use. I chose Canva while doing this task. Just like all the others tasks, the most satisfying part was the ending 😹 Despite the hardships, I came to the conclusion that a timeline is a great way to see the big picture of a topic, especially when one creates it on their own. You can click here to view the timeline on Canva

Creating a Digital Poster

Image
Hi, world! For this task, we were supposed to create a digital poster. There were two options: a movie poster or a magazine cover. I chose to create a magazine cover by using Canva and my magazine was about "MUHAK". I am a member of this club at our school and I like to mention that everywhere 😅.  I want to talk about the tool I used for this task. It was my first time using Canva. I heard about it being used usually in preparing presentations but I've never used it. It challenged me since I always have a hard time coping with technology, however, I managed to do the task. I learned a lot about the platform as well. It was surprising to see that you can use Canva for designing almost everything.  The magazine cover I designed is about MUHAK as I mentioned. It is one of the most active clubs in our school and it has more than two hundred members. It was difficult to choose a few of its activities since there are too many. I wish there really were a magazine for the club...
