AI Integrated Material

Image
Hello friends! We are back together with another challenging task. In this task, My friend Merve Yaşar and I were supposed to prepare material for prep class EFL students.      We chose the unit about traveling from their course book. The topic was easy but finding an AI tool to use in the activities was very confusing. I am not very familiar with AI tools other than ChatGPT or Google Bard ... So we consulted them to suggest a tool that would work for us. After deciding on Quillionz , an AI tool that creates quizzes based on a given text, the rest of the task came easily and quickly. We used Canva while preparing the worksheets.      You can check out our material by scrolling down.

AR/VR Integrated Materials

Image
In the changing world of education, it's pretty clear we're waving goodbye to the traditional methods. Today, I want to take you through a story about how Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) are shaking things up in the classroom. So, we worked with Merve Yaşar , and together we prepared something special: students diving into the streets of Amsterdam without leaving their seats, thanks to a VR document. They're cruising the canals and checking out landmarks, turning regular lessons into something way more exciting. Now, creating this VR experience was a challenge. Getting our creative vibes in sync, tweaking the VR setup, and fixing tech hiccups took some serious teamwork. But as we progressed and understood the assignment, we were convinced that this experience was a game-changer. This immersive journey went beyond the usual textbook stuff. It made students feel a real connection with Amsterdam's hotspots. It's a prime example of how VR/AR can spark genuine i...

Flipped Teaching Video

Image
Hello everyone! We're back together with an entertaining and different task. We prepared a flipped teaching video. Let me explain what the flipped classroom approach is. In a flipped classroom, there is a strategic swap of lectures and homework. While traditional methods are based on lecturing in class time and giving homework to do at home, the flipped classroom approach does the opposite. In this approach, students watch the lessons at home Netflix-style, and practice in the classroom. To adapt to the changing world, educators find this method very useful and fun. Students are able to see whether or not they completely understand and are capable of putting theory into real life. If there is a question they need to ask their teacher, they can do it right away and this is a huge plus for this method. There are also some disadvantages such as access to technology. To be able to successfully apply this method, all students need to have access to technology outside the ...

Corpus-based Teaching Material

Image
Hello everyone !  We're back together this semester with new tasks. Our latest task was preparing a corpus-based teaching material. While preparing, my partner Merve and I chose to work with intermediate-advanced level high school students. The topic we chose was differentiating "rise" and "raise". While preparing the material, we used Canva as a tool. We've been using Canva for years and know almost exactly how to use it but integrating corpus was the hard part of this task. Once we figured out what corpus is, how and where to use it, we were ready to prepare the material. It has step-by-step instructions that are clear and easy to understand. By the end of this material, we hope that students will be able to distinguish between the words "raise" and "rise" and use them correctly according to the context.  Thank you for visiting and see you next time !!! You can check out Merve's glamorous blog by clicking HERE  and the material by...

Problems Related to The Lack of Education in Turkey

Image
Hi, world! For this task, my friends Zelal, Leman, Mehmet Ali and I chose to work on the topic "Problems related to the lack of education in Turkey " and we used Padlet while doing it. Our topic was so satisfying to work on because we could get answers to our questions easily. There were many things I had been wondering but was too lazy to do research. It is relieving finally satisfying my curiosity even though it was homework 😺.         Last year, our professor used Padlet for a whole term and she used it so effectively that each and every student participated. Though I was familiar with the tool, there were many things I could not understand how to use. The appearance of Padlet is so enjoyable and colorful but it is a little disappointing to see that I could not use it easily as I expected. At least it was my first personal experience with Padlet so it is not a big problem that I messed up a little. As a 21st-century student, I am determin...

21st Century Learning & Skills

Image
Since the beginning of the 21st century, technology has entered our lives faster than a speeding bullet. It inevitably caused and keeps causing changes in every aspect of life. Thus, the best way to be prepared for those changes is to adjust our education system accordingly. It can be generally agreed that education in our time is more complex than it was before. Because people need different skills to lead their lives which can basically be summarized as 4C (Critical thinking, communication, creativity, collaboration). For a better carrier, education is now being built on these skills from elemantary to highschool.  With technology integrated classrooms and appropriate curriculum, students are easily and unconsciously adapted to 4C. Teachers have an important role in acquisition of 21st century skills. With the homeworks, technology integrated tasks and in-class activities they apply, students automatically become 21st century’s successful learners.       ...
