Flipped Teaching Video

Image
Hello everyone! For this task, my friend Zelal and I prepared a flipped teaching video. I will explain what flipped teaching is shortly. The flipped classroom approach is a teaching model that reverses the traditional roles of in-class lectures and homework assignments. Instead, students learn new concepts at home through pre-recorded lectures or other instructional materials and apply their knowledge during class time through interactive activities, discussions, and collaboration with peers. The advantages of using this method in language classes include flexibility for students to learn at their own pace, active learning which involves more interaction and participation, collaboration which encourages teamwork and peer-to-peer learning, and personalization where teachers can tailor lesson plans to meet individual needs. However, some disadvantages may include technical issues such as access to technology and reliable internet, lack of motivation for some students, time con...

Corpus-based Material

Image
Hi, world! Our new task was to prepare a corpus-based material. We were supposed to choose a generally confused grammar or vocabulary item from the MEB English coursebook and prepare a worksheet by using corpus-based activities. I worked on the worksheet for hours... I used Canva again for this project. It was hard to choose a worksheet template suitable for the types of exercises I will be creating. Fortunately, I found one and started to prepare activities on the topic I chose from the book. The topic was "few" and "a few". For most of the students who are new to these quantifiers, it is confusing and almost meaningless. I tried to make them understand, practice and create on this topic. It was exhausting trying to find the right sentences while giving examples. I am satisfied with the outline of the worksheet and activities. This task contributed a great deal to my teaching skills. It provided me with the ability to see the activities from the eyes of the studen...

Creating a Timeline

Image
Hello there! I am here with a very different task this time. It is the first time I've ever created a timeline by myself ! The topic of the timeline that we were supposed to create is " the history of technology in language learning". We have been going over this topic for a couple of weeks. Though I heard so many things on this topic, it was hard to summarize them into a timeline. The hard part was not only summarizing, creating was also a confusing process. I tried out a few tools that our teacher suggested. Finally, I could understand one of them enough to use. I chose Canva while doing this task. Just like all the others tasks, the most satisfying part was the ending 😹 Despite the hardships, I came to the conclusion that a timeline is a great way to see the big picture of a topic, especially when one creates it on their own. You can click here to view the timeline on Canva

The cat person is back !

Image
Hi everyone !!! Our journey may have seemed to be over but it is definitely not. Now, I will continue blogging for a new lesson: Material Design in English Language Teaching. In this lesson, we, the students, are the ones who will prepare the materials. As a teacher candidate, I sincerely feel that this lesson is going to improve for the better. I can not wait to post new tasks and see my development over time. Though this lesson looks difficult to me now, I want to believe that it will get easier as I continue this journey.       I miss sharing my ideas and products with you. I hope we will have a great time together ! Keep checking my blog for the recent posts and more cat content! πŸ˜ΌπŸ’•

Digital Storytelling

Image
Hi, world! Our last task was digital storytelling. Again, there were options and we (Zelal, Mehmet Ali and I) chose to prepare a "How to..?" video. Honestly, I suggested choosing that because it seemed easier than the others but I was wrong. We spent days trying to choose an idea for it. We came up with different ideas over and over but could not decide. Finally, we agreed on making origami because it was fun and exactly a "how to" video. Then, we told each other what we can do and assigned tasks. Shooting the video, vocalization and editing... It was tiring but I am satisfied with the video and the origami frog we made 😊. You can watch the video and try it yourself if you want ! This task can provide a lot in a language classroom since it requires the production of language. Students will create content, maybe write a script, read it and at the same time they will hear themselves speaking. It is an all-purpose and ideal task for learners. Check out my teammates...

My Final Post

Image
Hi, world! This is my last “Hi, world!” for this term. There are so many things I need to talk about this wonderful lesson. First of all, this course made me realize that I knew too little about how to use technology in education. Of course, I knew this was a necessity but I came to the realization of I had no idea how to put it into real-life practice. Also, I used to think that technology could be integrated into classrooms only by the teachers’ own use such as using presentations, playing games and making the students watch some videos because these had been the things we saw technology in school as students. No other lesson made me use technology this much. I learned various tools to create various contents. I had no idea I could do them. It is great to see real progress in my technological skills. If we come to the benefits of technology in learning English, it contributes a great deal to the production of language. As 21st-century learners, we and the next generations shoul...

Creating a Digital Poster

Image
Hi, world! For this task, we were supposed to create a digital poster. There were two options: a movie poster or a magazine cover. I chose to create a magazine cover by using Canva and my magazine was about "MUHAK". I am a member of this club at our school and I like to mention that everywhere πŸ˜….  I want to talk about the tool I used for this task. It was my first time using Canva. I heard about it being used usually in preparing presentations but I've never used it. It challenged me since I always have a hard time coping with technology, however, I managed to do the task. I learned a lot about the platform as well. It was surprising to see that you can use Canva for designing almost everything.  The magazine cover I designed is about MUHAK as I mentioned. It is one of the most active clubs in our school and it has more than two hundred members. It was difficult to choose a few of its activities since there are too many. I wish there really were a magazine for the club...
